2014 was definitely an insane whirlwind of a year (obviously, due to the lack of posting on here...)<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
In between moving out of our beloved home in Milwaukee, starting to build a brand new home, <i>and</i> finding out we're expecting a new baby.... I somehow managed to keep CD going strong and worked with tons of awesome couples on some of the most fun wedding invitation suites I've designed so far.<br />
<br />
So, now as I sit here on New Years Eve, super preggo and exhausted, I can say that it was quite an eventful year, but I'm very much looking forward to all the awesome-ness that is in store for 2015! Thanks for continuing to support us here at CD, and cheers to the new year!<br />

The past 6 months have been a whirlwind of change, stress, and emotion. I finally have some down time to sit back and reflect/recap this crazy year so far. So, I decided to start with sharing some pics from Beckett's 4th birthday party back in May! Back in March...<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>we made the excruciating decision to move out of our beloved house in Bay View, Milwaukee. It was the hardest decision we've ever had to make, but after endless weeks of making pro's and con's lists, we knew it was the right thing to do for our family.<br />
<br />
Since we knew we would be listing our house on the market in mid May, we wanted to have one last hurrah at the house, not only say goodbye to our home with all our friends and family, but to celebrate Beckett's 4th birthday. And what better way than with the theme "Turning 4, in the 4-1-4" !("414" is the Milwaukee area code)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Beckett is a city kid all the way! Some of his favorite things are looking at the tall buildings downtown, walking on the beach at the lakefront, and going to Brewers games. So, when we started planning the party, we knew we wanted to embrace all the things Beckett loves about the city we call home.<br />
<br />
We went all out Milwaukee, which wasn't hard for us, since we live and breath for this city. We decorated in Brewers blue and yellow, hung the WI state flag, made Milwaukee freeway signs, and even made some of Milwaukee's iconic buildings out of giant cardboard boxes that the kiddos could play with. We served brats and beer -the preferred Milwaukee cuisine, of course. Along with <a href="http://www.purpledooricecream.com/">Purple Door</a> ice cream, and <a href="http://www.sprecherbrewery.com/index.php">Sprecher</a> root beer for the kiddos.<br />

<i> (Some of the box buildings, and the giant 4-1-4 balloons)</i><br />
<br />
My favorite part of the party was probably the amazing Milwaukee cake we had made by a local baker friend. The two tiered cake was decorated with the iconic Milwaukee landmarks I had drawn on Beckett's invitation. And the cake was topped off (literally) with an actual spinning wind turbine! (There is a big wind turbine that greets you when you enter Bay View on the lake, so it is a favorite Bay View landmark of ours)<br />

<i> (It actually spinned!)</i><br />
<br />
Since this was Beck's 4th birthday party, I've become quite the expert at hopping on the crazy train and going perhaps, too much all out, for his parties. But doggoneit, I love it. The part I enjoy the most, is of course, designing the invitations! I decided to hand draw a little map of Milwaukee, as a sort of "Beckett's Guide to Milwaukee".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7uLXqPLsdURYWwN0_VG1dct_RtBazGBtsks6bp-uisZAS5QtHTq6uuUunEDMiV8Pm38iiS-eBwVcqI9kApatpi2hT1hRRkvE4VRVw00_eSgNojey7ce4iogf6rDtAmT39pr8OGavkpcU8/s1600/4-invite+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7uLXqPLsdURYWwN0_VG1dct_RtBazGBtsks6bp-uisZAS5QtHTq6uuUunEDMiV8Pm38iiS-eBwVcqI9kApatpi2hT1hRRkvE4VRVw00_eSgNojey7ce4iogf6rDtAmT39pr8OGavkpcU8/s1600/4-invite+copy.jpg" height="640" width="456" /></a></div>
<i> (The invite came folded up in map form.)</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
The party was a blast, and was the perfect way to say goodbye to the city we love and will always call home!<br />

Where are we heading? When are we headed? The house sold fast (almost too fast...), and we moved out in July. We are building a new house in Muskego (a suburb of Milwaukee), and will move in, in early 2015. More on that, and other new happiness, soon...<br />

We have so many other projects in the works right now that I'm so excited to share, including working with the amazing "<a href="http://www.frommilwaukeewithlove.com/">From Milwaukee with Love</a>" boxes, a brand new neighborhood/city print (hint: we're MAD about it...) planning a stellar 4th birthday party for Beckett, which means of course, <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2012/04/hoppin-on-crazy-train.html">hopping on the crazy train</a>. Along with sharing the whole slew of beautiful wedding invitations that have been keeping me busy all winter and spring. Stay tuned my people...<br />

I am going to be participating in <a href="http://www.indiewed.com/" target="_blank">Indie Wed</a> again this year down in Chicago, and it's already THIS Saturday! Snuck up on me! So, in preparation, I wanted to share some of my favorite wedding designs from this past year that I haven't posted on the blog yet. First up is Katie and Ryan...<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPEysMUkz-lINh5s-LYxML_oqqCxscQ-vIrHMzssXiJGNiOe0Tg61EQK2apWbnu4X4mgMq53HTqWKNWm63WMwsYrbNzVwZJ9FGi5HPVc7fuF3iJUP8cyj0ehSEaffwv7lW6QXuGQhpiWKD/s1600/katiegraves6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPEysMUkz-lINh5s-LYxML_oqqCxscQ-vIrHMzssXiJGNiOe0Tg61EQK2apWbnu4X4mgMq53HTqWKNWm63WMwsYrbNzVwZJ9FGi5HPVc7fuF3iJUP8cyj0ehSEaffwv7lW6QXuGQhpiWKD/s1600/katiegraves6.jpg" height="456" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I met Katie at Indie Wed in Milwaukee back in 2012, and after she described her wedding vision, I immediately had one million ideas. Visions of mason jars and wood grain danced in my head! I was so excited to be able to bring it all to life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgha88ti5vpUjh0637DJgoQfclvelbMk1wAK1LUGToThxu29nBxsD68AK7_iipg1XdfyszHioOIreutBI-rruo7AvHhO67yVz3rWOUAQQLRhHD5k7vmhJTToTeUvsJ_TYlr3gXhu4njPg7_/s1600/blog-katiegraves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgha88ti5vpUjh0637DJgoQfclvelbMk1wAK1LUGToThxu29nBxsD68AK7_iipg1XdfyszHioOIreutBI-rruo7AvHhO67yVz3rWOUAQQLRhHD5k7vmhJTToTeUvsJ_TYlr3gXhu4njPg7_/s1600/blog-katiegraves.jpg" height="448" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I drew the cute little mason jar monogram that tied their suite together and added the fun map to draw out their events. I adored the way the design oozed with love and warmth. The suite had a slight country/barn celebration vibe, but didn't go overboard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGiasBjzQieSiz3yOOn83liXBhCFFCHB65RoNlBQl1hWGzDcY-00C9FpSG2wPoYeT4A37nS4fTq49t4UfuVcqMSFFSBAX_p-_ZYNmxpMpqHvO7HuaUOoSFq4tDhlbTsUt1lrcY1450XCZ/s1600/katiegraves3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGiasBjzQieSiz3yOOn83liXBhCFFCHB65RoNlBQl1hWGzDcY-00C9FpSG2wPoYeT4A37nS4fTq49t4UfuVcqMSFFSBAX_p-_ZYNmxpMpqHvO7HuaUOoSFq4tDhlbTsUt1lrcY1450XCZ/s1600/katiegraves3.jpg" height="456" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Katie and Ryan, you two are so sweet, and your invitations remain one of my favorites!<br />
<br />

<br />
Why, hello 2014. Nice to meet you!<br />
It seems like the years keep flying by, I mean, I thought I just wrote "<a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2013/01/hello-2013.html" target="_blank">Hello 2013</a>" yesterday!?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>We had another great year + one of our biggest holiday seasons of our 6 year existence! It was so awesome, and it's all thanks to you - our supporters! 2012 was definitely a learning year - a "stuck in a rut" year for us, and we spent a lot of time re-thinking things, so in 2013 we put the wheels in motion and re branded a little and made things fun again! We designed some of our most favorite things this year and focused on our love for local and got back to basics - being our quirky selves. I must say, 2013 was one of my favorites!<br />
<br />
Here are the highlights:<br />
* Had the pleasure of participating in Maker Market, IndieWed, Urban Garage Sale and Hover Craft.<br />
* We designed our first non paper product...<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/172385810/wi-drink-local-beer-t-shirt-mensunisex?ref=shop_home_active" target="_blank">T-Shirts</a>!!<br />
* I, unfortunately, <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2013/05/holding-on-for-dear-life.html" target="_blank">turned 30</a>. I guess it wasn't <i>that</i> bad.<br />
* My son turned 3, and as usual, I went <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-3d-birthday.html" target="_blank">completely overboard</a> with a 3-D party.<br />
* We <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2013/10/our-travels-oregon-washington.html" target="_blank">traveled</a> a lot, and my son got his first taste of all the wonder that is Route 66.<br />
* We gave lots of love to Milwaukee an WI, with our new <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/crackeddesigns?section_id=14561569" target="_blank">neighborhood </a>and <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/168636555/wi-craft-beer-print?ref=shop_home_active" target="_blank">beer</a> prints!<br />
* We did some re-branding and freshened up the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/crackeddesigns" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>.<br />
* We did tons of custom work with some of the nicest folks around, from wedding invitations - to party invitations - to illustration portraits and more! So. Much. Fun.<br />
<br />
Thanks again to everyone out there who loves us, we love you right back. We can't wait to share lots of new designs with you this year. The best is yet to come!Tarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14012685931843261640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2706389922010724345.post-15123193709054351972013-12-17T11:00:00.000-06:002013-12-17T14:46:27.288-06:00What we've been up to.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
As I write this, I feel like my eyes are actually going googly, because I've been staring at a sea of Journey Journals and intricate custom drawings for what seems like a bajillion days.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Tis true, we've been crazy busy here at CD, and cards, journals and prints are flying out of the door faster than my 3 year old when he sees snow outside.<br />
<br />
It's been one of our busiest and best holiday seasons so far, and it ain't even over yet! Since I've been seriously neglected the blog lately - we've been keeping busy, especially locally, which is always exciting and fun! We participated in our first <a href="http://hovercraftmke.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Hovercraft</a> event at Turner Hall last week, and despite a big ol' snowstorm, it was a great success! Milwaukeeans truly are the bees knees for braving the snow and coming out to support local handmade goodness. We ain't 'fraid of no snow.<br />
<br />

<br />
We have been so incredibly excited to launch a new project - T-shirts! Creating our new shirts let us collaborate with an awesome local screen printing business - <a href="http://www.orchardstreetpress.com/" target="_blank">Orchard Street Press</a>. Anyone in Milwaukee already knows how cool this biz is, and we are so grateful to them for helping us out! Our new beer t-shirts can be seen <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/172385810/wi-drink-local-beer-t-shirt-mensunisex?ref=shop_home_active" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

<br />
We've been doing tons and tons of custom Journey Journals for the holiday season too. Apparently New Zealand is <i>the</i> place to go this year! We've done more N.Z. journals than anything else this year, oddly enough. Want your own custom journal for an upcoming trip? They start at $20 and can be started by shooting me a message on <a href="http://crackeddesigns.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy</a>!<br />
<br />
In all the madness, I managed to sneak in some time to make what is perhaps the weirdest and most awesome Christmas card for us. Here is a sneak peak, but I'll post more on those later...<br />
<br />
Even though I have yet to start Christmas shopping (yikes.), this past month has been so awesome and I am thrilled to see so many people supporting handmade this holiday season. I wish I could hug all of you. Hoping you all have a happy holiday next week! XOXO, CD<br />

<br />
We got back from the Pacific Northwest earlier this week, and like I had mentioned on facebook - we have never been so happy to be back in the midwest! We came home to sunny skies and high 70's, ahhhh! Despite the terrible weather, unreal traffic backups, Crater Lake being entirely covered by dense fog, and our flights being canceled on us TWICE.....we did have a fun trip! Here are some highlights...<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I don't know if my expectations were way too super high for this trip, but I can't help but feel a little let down by our exploration of the great Pacific Northwest. Maybe we crammed in just a little too much for 10 days, I don't know. Oregon and Washington have always been two places I couldn't wait to explore, so I was so excited to finally be able to make the trek out there. I can't really put my finger on why I was a little disappointed in the trip, I guess it just didn't live up to the hype in my head. BUT, we did see some very very cool things. Here are some of my favorite things/places we encountered on our adventure.<br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>1. SIGNS</b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn9HBo90gTaqDyPpiIuj7MRmHZNTjT2Ov-XPMt2IERqTW0TyZ-T4AptqRaV0o454rN121pWKn1vdLr76GyM6aQ571Qz2815RSOLn1nzJ5ibep110R3ZJ6oySBY1WB6kJ0hTtpXUWrSpG9I/s1600/blog-sea-port-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="458" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn9HBo90gTaqDyPpiIuj7MRmHZNTjT2Ov-XPMt2IERqTW0TyZ-T4AptqRaV0o454rN121pWKn1vdLr76GyM6aQ571Qz2815RSOLn1nzJ5ibep110R3ZJ6oySBY1WB6kJ0hTtpXUWrSpG9I/s640/blog-sea-port-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I gotta hand it to these two states, the old signs, especially the neon signs, were some of the best I've ever seen. And <i>I</i> should know a good sign. Adam and I have traveled all over the country in search for great old signs (hotels, bars, restaurants, etc.), and other than old Route 66, OR and WA had some amazing signs, and as a bonus, most of them were in impeccable condition. Not only were old signs kept up nicely, but a lot of new businesses also embraced the art of having a great sign. That's just something you don't see much of here in Wisconsin. So, I was in heaven capturing all those beauties.<br />
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">The photos above are of "High Dive" bar in Seattle and "Pink Elephant Car Wash" in Seattle</span></i><br />
<br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2. TREES OF MYSTERY</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfY_dYs3zEZT4eW3VHR5r7praVZruKfkWz42M-9wySz6jic9sZv3umm4gbdnvVV42jKaMxz80DITiBwl98Ge_NWyK0qJCDSFkbDslYAcdg7eT1TU7wBXuE_Mrvas9eVvoISDT5c6gekeXB/s1600/DSC_0230+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfY_dYs3zEZT4eW3VHR5r7praVZruKfkWz42M-9wySz6jic9sZv3umm4gbdnvVV42jKaMxz80DITiBwl98Ge_NWyK0qJCDSFkbDslYAcdg7eT1TU7wBXuE_Mrvas9eVvoISDT5c6gekeXB/s640/DSC_0230+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Umm when you have a giant Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue Ox greeting you at a tacky tourist trap, you are destined to be a classic my book. And that is exactly what this place is. "Trees of Mystery" is actually in northern California (Klamath), but we knew we had to make the slight detour, and boy was it worth it. Sure, I may be biased considering I have an unhealthy love for all things Paul Bunyan. No judging.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">3. OVERALL BIGFOOT AWESOME-NESS</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUcSu1pbgHjURJWnt9Tx6iAqV0YNdUjBwa0ErWJHcfqH6HJUSd1HNDt643260McvgQSMEjCgoUcAEXk6ewSf6ZDGBoDeJHzqy1qJKCFRfQnYgskF4g18SJwFvExbyfPnrWdHjdcDsOd8wp/s1600/DSC_0065+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUcSu1pbgHjURJWnt9Tx6iAqV0YNdUjBwa0ErWJHcfqH6HJUSd1HNDt643260McvgQSMEjCgoUcAEXk6ewSf6ZDGBoDeJHzqy1qJKCFRfQnYgskF4g18SJwFvExbyfPnrWdHjdcDsOd8wp/s640/DSC_0065+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
One of the big hopes I had before we came out here was that there was going to <i>hopefully</i> be a lot of bigfoot stuff, and boy did I hit the jackpot. Both OR and WA were Big foot plentiful, and even though we didn't catch a glimpse of the majestic beast, we did get to read about encounters in "Bigfoot encounter diaries" in some local gas stations.<br />
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">Above giant Bigfoot statue is at the "Buried A-Frame" near Mt. St. Helen's in Washington</span></i><br />
<br />

One of the nights along the coast we were running behind schedule and weren't able to get as far as we wanted to. But that turned out to be the best thing ever, because we ran across the little town of Long Beach, WA. Not only did this town have the world's largest frying man (Score!), and the amazing "Marsh's Free Museum"(which has "Jake" the alligator man), Long Beach is home to the coolest hotel ever - Adrift Hotel. It was right on the beach and we had the best views of the ocean from our awesome room. This hotel is everything other hotels are not, which made it thee best. Highly recommend!<br />

<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5. OUT N ABOUT TREEHOUSES, OREGON</span></b><br />

Yep, actual treehouses you can stay in! There is really no need for me to explain why this is so awesome. Our treehouse for the night unfortunately didn't have a toilet, but it did have a sink, and there was a full bathroom in the commons area on the ground floor. This place was awesome.<br />
<br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">6. ROGUE AND BASE CAMP BREWERIES</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Of course, we tried a ton of beer on our trip. duh. "Base Camp Brewing Company" in Portland and "Rogue Brewery" in Newport, OR were by far the best. Base Camp was a small brewery with a ton of awesome branding and even cooler tasting room. But thee best ever was ROGUE. Sure, Rogue is a huge brewery, sold all over the country, and we weren't actually expecting to be as cool as it was. The brewery itself housed a pub and restaurant, where you had to walk through all the brewery equipment. We kind of accidentally wandered in on a cold and rainy night, and it turned out to be the best surprise ever!<br />
I know this might be kind of blasphemy to say, but the beer out there wasn't <i>as good</i> as I thought it might be. I know, I know, I'm crazy, blah blah blah. But for 2 states that rule the world in craft breweries, I was a little disappointed. Again, maybe my expectations were too high, I don't know. But, I've had better.<br />

Overall, we had a great time out in Washington and Oregon, and I will probably share some more photos of all the awesome signs I discovered later on. Have a happy weekend!<br />

Hi everyone! As I posted about <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-dream-of-90s-is-alive.html" target="_blank">here</a>, we'll be taking a much needed break over the next 10 days to the beautiful Pacific Northwest! We will be putting our Etsy shop on vacation starting tonight until Sunday Sept. 29th. Then we'll be back at it and post more about our newest cards! If you have any ideas or suggestions of cool places to go while we're out in Oregon and Washington - tweet at me!: @crackeddesigns<br />
<br />
Fingers crossed that we see Big Foot!<br />

<br />
I've been waaaay behind on blogging about some of my custom projects I've worked on this year, so bear with me here. This past spring I designing some very cool high school graduation announcements for Mr. Jayce who is going on to study aviation in Washington. I was stoked to design these right from the start...<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Just the way Jayce's mom described him in her first email, it was so sweet and perfect - how Jayce has worked at his grandfather's small airport since he was 8 and how he is truly is an "old soul". I knew I could design just the right announcement.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhusrGK1WlmqtGP2mvQV8FxFl9jRkc-A5mxN46ChDyCKfStwYXNb16ynBhY9xf3dqwBKhlCQCan9Kb_noaoqAVQ4-LAzC_XeM7GHax_q1_r_IsKdvxzIBtYMRbZfv6YpfVDZVKgtZrDQwiw/s1600/jayce-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhusrGK1WlmqtGP2mvQV8FxFl9jRkc-A5mxN46ChDyCKfStwYXNb16ynBhY9xf3dqwBKhlCQCan9Kb_noaoqAVQ4-LAzC_XeM7GHax_q1_r_IsKdvxzIBtYMRbZfv6YpfVDZVKgtZrDQwiw/s640/jayce-1.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
I loved the end result, as it captured some of my favorite things - modern but retro, and simple in an elegant way. Congrats to Mr. Habich and hope you continue your love of all things aviation!<br />

<br />
Oh man, these invites I designed for Katie and Jim who got hitched back in June were sooooo cute and fun to make! Here's the story...<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Katie is from MN and Jim is from IL, but they met in Wisconsin, which is also where they tied the knot. So, they asked me to create a kind of "logo" to tie the invite all together and sum up their love story.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfAbmz7MN91o0d9-spbySQzAeLVUmDao8R4hBoCkI-JHSGdW8CEFV0AA7JcnaCCRg-dtZWDxzTSjvvZm6T4qjhrKEc9qpKi94Bd0L3VK3Psx1mrXamF6nOh0oe9q3E6d9LpO2st0IrM01-/s1600/ktflom-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfAbmz7MN91o0d9-spbySQzAeLVUmDao8R4hBoCkI-JHSGdW8CEFV0AA7JcnaCCRg-dtZWDxzTSjvvZm6T4qjhrKEc9qpKi94Bd0L3VK3Psx1mrXamF6nOh0oe9q3E6d9LpO2st0IrM01-/s640/ktflom-3.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
I hand drew the nautical rope and even brushed off my painting skills to create the watercolor bands that wrapped around each invite. I adore the final design, with it's mixture of clean, crisp and modern with a subtle nautical vibe. Congrats to Katie and Jim!<br />
<br />

Sometimes at the end of summer, I have a little work down time. I usually try to work ahead and design fun new stuff - but I usually procrastinate and end up watching "My So-Called Life". Let's be honest here, who can't get sucked into Jordan Catalano's eyes?<br />
<br />
But despite my love for all things 90's pop culture, I have been drawing up lots of awesome new stuff - new cards, prints, and brand new non-paper items! Oh the suspense! It's killing you, isn't it? I know, I'll feed you, but not yet.<br />
<br />
Stay tuned for new stuff popping up in the Etsy shop and more photos on Facebook! <br />
We are planning a trip out to the Pacific Northwest in a month, and I have been a researching machine on all things big foot, grunge music, craft beer, coffee, Paul Bunyan, Twin Peaks locations and all other glorious things the Pacific NW has to offer. But what is my <i>real dream</i> to see while out west you ask? To see Carrie Brownstein but of course! Does this seem like a stalker thing to say? Yes. Am I a question talker today? Yes.<br />
<br />
I have been spending perhaps too much time watching "<a href="http://www.ifc.com/shows/portlandia" target="_blank">Portlandia</a>" lately, and "<a href="http://www.sleater-kinney.com/" target="_blank">Sleater-Kinney</a>" has been playing in the house just a little more than usual. Adam just doesn't get it, but I have had a serious crush on this girl ever since my ears first heard the sweet sounds of girl angst on my walkman, a million years ago. What's not to like? She just oozes coolness.<br />
<br />
Well anyways, I'm looking forward to drinking insane amounts of beer and washing it down with a <i>damn</i> good cup of coffee! (Agent Cooper, anyone?) Does anyone have any off the beaten path suggestions? Cool places to visit/see in Washington or Oregon? I'd love to hear, we're always up for an adventure!Tarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14012685931843261640noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2706389922010724345.post-19792714388706306012013-08-12T11:21:00.002-05:002013-08-12T11:21:58.856-05:00Cheers to Boxing Rock!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

There are only a few things we love more than greeting cards, and one of them is definitely beer. Cheap beer, fancy beer, you name it. We especially love craft beer from craft breweries, so we were so excited when <a href="http://boxingrock.ca/" target="_blank">Boxing Rock Brewing Co.</a> from Nova Scotia Canada loved our "Brewing between us" card. All of our Canadian friends can now enjoy not only a tasty brew, but a cool card as well! Get our original "brewing" card, as well as the same design in a bunch of different greetings at Boxing Rock in Shelburne, N.S. (Isn't their logo cool!?)<br />

It's Chatter Phone!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYjxMDE0ecQ7i38JdrHgJ5fdxQdyr_P_FpkhvwrNDp8-w5xaEeY0G7wX6Hg6i-Vs0Ua3qQer3u_t-5gkdmcKPO3VQ4KbOayji6k36zDUOtVaTvPOhvxBjJtOyNB3vAufV-4VJRrzgSeh8Q/s1600/saoirse1-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYjxMDE0ecQ7i38JdrHgJ5fdxQdyr_P_FpkhvwrNDp8-w5xaEeY0G7wX6Hg6i-Vs0Ua3qQer3u_t-5gkdmcKPO3VQ4KbOayji6k36zDUOtVaTvPOhvxBjJtOyNB3vAufV-4VJRrzgSeh8Q/s640/saoirse1-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
One of my favorite things is being able to design something and have all the creative power up to me. So when Saoirse's mama asked me to design some birthday invitations, inspired by vintage toys, I was pumped. I adore anything vintage, especially kids toys - they just don't make 'em like they used to!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtCyiEbOEqtl7oyZR0529FMghLHs3vwZnT3jMJT73USb8aZASKrFUjt3RdpfPdhZS6Gj9BNW_NLAHpEkLvMUBJQdtz8QJrUHIql4b5HfWViadHi5fc1tdK1J62ALVIWUgtWcTZT-_DZ-Yy/s1600/saoirse1-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtCyiEbOEqtl7oyZR0529FMghLHs3vwZnT3jMJT73USb8aZASKrFUjt3RdpfPdhZS6Gj9BNW_NLAHpEkLvMUBJQdtz8QJrUHIql4b5HfWViadHi5fc1tdK1J62ALVIWUgtWcTZT-_DZ-Yy/s640/saoirse1-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
While I was brainstorming what to design, Beckett and I were playing with his beloved chatter phone and then BAM - it hit me! The bright colors and fun demeanor of the silly little chatter phone were perfect for a 1st birthday. I drew up the little guy and hand drew the big font as well, for a playful invite that is as cute as the birthday girl herself!<br />

A couple of things first:<br />
- I've been severely neglecting this blog lately, which makes me sad. So, I really want to get back in a groove and start sharing more fun/weird/random stuff that's been going on in the world of Cracked Designs. Because of my lack of blogging though, I have been working on lots of new stuff, both new products and custom designs that I'm excited to share in the weeks to come!<br />
<br />
So anyways...<br />The CD crew went out on a little road trip last week to South Dakota. It. Was. Amazing. It was like I had died and gone to souvenir heaven. We basically struck <i>(black hills)</i> gold out west and came home with tons of new tacky souvenirs to add to our rapidly expanding collection. I'll introduce you to 'Boyd', the Jackalope we adopted, in another post.<br />

Wow, long time no post. Sheesh. Just a quick reminder to all Milwaukee peeps that we will be participating in the "<a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/422898671151213/" target="_blank">Maker Market</a>"
at Alterra in Bay View (Milwaukee) tomorrow, Sunday July 7th from
10Am-4PM. It should be a killer market with lots of local goodies. You
can also get your hands on one of our "Bay View" prints or the brand new
"East Side" print OR the "Dueling hoods" note card set, which has one
Bay View and one East Side note card. Word to that. See you all
tomorrow!Tarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14012685931843261640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2706389922010724345.post-50563784372947452042013-05-06T10:58:00.000-05:002013-05-06T10:58:36.422-05:00Holding on for dear life<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMqUfib7Ghw49k-daBJQgD16lXd0qzoapKnnHSyK_pfpSNbhtD1ARnBKwrFLsir9DkX_nTi4IpQfGg8FnVEiHw3DUYCyR8Nz9GWGc3LEJF5cz_gJy3GcX595YCCBRGd2VHmdW1Zk3G9TNX/s1600/408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMqUfib7Ghw49k-daBJQgD16lXd0qzoapKnnHSyK_pfpSNbhtD1ARnBKwrFLsir9DkX_nTi4IpQfGg8FnVEiHw3DUYCyR8Nz9GWGc3LEJF5cz_gJy3GcX595YCCBRGd2VHmdW1Zk3G9TNX/s640/408.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The conversation started a while back, but it went a little something like this:<br />
Adam: "Hey, what do you want for your big 30th birthday!?"<br />
Me: "A mother frickin' Delorean, so I can go back in time and re-live my 20's."<br />
Adam: *silence* (with a frightened look on his face)<br />
<br />
I'm turning 30 tomorrow and I just can't shake this feeling of dread. I know I am being a complete wuss, and no matter how many people tell me that "30 isn't <i>old</i>", I still can't help feeling like I'm gonna barf. I continue to watch the gray hairs dominate my head, and listen to my knees crack while I go up stairs. ugh.<br />
<br />
My 20's were good to me - I married my best friend, I started a company that I adore, I became a mom to the coolest kid on earth, I traveled to amazing places, I finished college, I had the best times with some of my best friends. So, I can't help but think: "So, what now?" The 30's are a mystery to me, and I don't know what to expect, which is why I'm dreading letting go of my 29 year old self.<br />
<br />
But, since I can't stop time, I have no choice but to accept turning 30. And by "accept" I mean get totally plastered. I'm going to spend the rest of today and tomorrow being completely nostalgic and bump some Ace of Base and other awesomely bad 90's music. <br />
As most of you know by now, I absolutely <i>love</i> planning birthday parties for my son, Beckett. Do I go a little overboard? Yes. (As seen <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2012/05/sass-quatch-party-part-2.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://crackeddesigns.blogspot.com/2011/05/little-man-party-part-1.html" target="_blank">here</a>.)<br />
<br />
Well, this past weekend we partied it up, and celebrated his 3rd birthday in 3D style. (Get it...<i>3</i>-D) So far, this party was my favorite theme yet, and I think it turned soooo cool. I'll post all the pics this week, including the radical invitations, but first, here are some of my favorite pics from the fun-filled 3D party!<br />

Today's custom invitation suite is from Jaime & Teri's September 2012 celebration! I had so much fun designing this, and loved getting to work with Jaime and Teri and bring their unique vision to life!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCb6vt2S8lSenLzJC_ji2W0uow29BWjwjK-Wx743dgdmkkbJ6aMAxm8j7x5V89fIw7-lpNe0qxvTTZMzYV4TiuE6GAYkhCDqiWWjmaKYDGTRorGxqoC8-zLC3Ff7Ui2BRT6DvL7Y9p5nuP/s1600/jaime-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCb6vt2S8lSenLzJC_ji2W0uow29BWjwjK-Wx743dgdmkkbJ6aMAxm8j7x5V89fIw7-lpNe0qxvTTZMzYV4TiuE6GAYkhCDqiWWjmaKYDGTRorGxqoC8-zLC3Ff7Ui2BRT6DvL7Y9p5nuP/s640/jaime-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Jaime and Teri had the idea of taking a theme like, "The classic story of boy meets girl" and switch it up to redefine the term "classic". Using the "story" concept, I illustrated this invitation set with a pile of books outlining the invitation text and used girl silhouettes to create a type of logo for the front of the booklet style invitation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJjks8hRl9KOK2mGTWyAYzPCazUznCfO45WZUIPIFuNK6Wo7O4XovjtqsDN0nTWeNw9JPOBa238EgbmWJMZAU95LnUNcBZS1r1ggtbl5qh5CIx6WvJZtpMNEZHzbrAgsSBhXPbnUD2M7Tf/s1600/jaime-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJjks8hRl9KOK2mGTWyAYzPCazUznCfO45WZUIPIFuNK6Wo7O4XovjtqsDN0nTWeNw9JPOBa238EgbmWJMZAU95LnUNcBZS1r1ggtbl5qh5CIx6WvJZtpMNEZHzbrAgsSBhXPbnUD2M7Tf/s640/jaime-4.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
I created a unique RSVP card as well, that kept in style with the rest of the suite. I loved how it turned out!<br />
<br />
I always love a challenge of coming up with something totally unique, and this invitation set was especially fun to design!Tarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14012685931843261640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2706389922010724345.post-11757670822971442842013-01-28T16:09:00.002-06:002013-02-04T10:56:54.062-06:00Flashback: Sasha and Ryan<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have another "flashback" wedding invitation suite to share today, this one comin' way back from 11/11/11!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm-isnJXdrbWVhRJdXIO5y2K02BGCpa9luV84c_uWQ59kNm84X0Q6ZUYFhdG1lYahaajy1ZNK5Vs1dZBRUvEJHFlxxWvu-tThR4pgf49k4qInLA79VbTVOAErqWj3Ve-pL4lZ5fiAlnvDy/s1600/sasha-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm-isnJXdrbWVhRJdXIO5y2K02BGCpa9luV84c_uWQ59kNm84X0Q6ZUYFhdG1lYahaajy1ZNK5Vs1dZBRUvEJHFlxxWvu-tThR4pgf49k4qInLA79VbTVOAErqWj3Ve-pL4lZ5fiAlnvDy/s640/sasha-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Sasha and Ryan had a "two hearts, one love" concept they wanted to incorporate in their celebration. So I decided to design a sleek and simple invitation suite for the two. My favorite part was the little two hearts combination with their new monogram, "S". Something about those two little hearts make me smile. The tri-fold design was complete with the "11-11-11" paper band that held the invitation together, forever locking that special date into each guests' mind.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_CKc7Rqg1TT7YQFtKIMEQU_XsKDK4hLu3b2T_z0qGg3tmJX-PHtISZUEEEBL5lUXYGP9T33PH1iUiuJyryVMU6Bavsd0Em7vJT6hbTt8_kOY1i8ubXwZxDBpCxgV8Hfe-JI3k9W8lc0jK/s1600/sasha-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_CKc7Rqg1TT7YQFtKIMEQU_XsKDK4hLu3b2T_z0qGg3tmJX-PHtISZUEEEBL5lUXYGP9T33PH1iUiuJyryVMU6Bavsd0Em7vJT6hbTt8_kOY1i8ubXwZxDBpCxgV8Hfe-JI3k9W8lc0jK/s640/sasha-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I loved how simple, yet visually striking these suckers turned out to be, and the blue and black color palette was a nice choice for the wintery November Wisconsin wedding that it was!<br />
<br />
I have one more "flashback" wedding I'll post this week, and don't forget, <a href="http://www.indiewed.com/" target="_blank">Indie Wed</a> in Chicago is THIS SATURDAY! Boy, that sure came up quick. We'll be on the first floor again, eager to talk with all you cool brides and grooms.<br />

<br />
So, in preparation for <a href="http://www.indiewed.com/" target="_blank">Indie Wed in Chicago</a> (coming up on Feb. 2nd!), I've been going through my archives of wedding invitations, and stumbled upon a few designs that I've never shared on the blog. Including this invitation from waaaaaaay back in 2010, which coincidentally is one of my favorites! It's no surprise I totally forgot to post about this suite, considering I gave birth shortly after I finished designing it. It's not like I had anything else better to do. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpUWmSed1q4hv3niVaMMIoywFxollfIF5Bw87lbt_v3iN7lkvuP77-KgiRJ7orOx-LvjXxFBQik3SNpWd9JD6mRrcSRRFHONozIe6VJu2ykucxmOyqwUizSsdlrJ3sfBHb08o4LkPPubZs/s1600/dorota-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpUWmSed1q4hv3niVaMMIoywFxollfIF5Bw87lbt_v3iN7lkvuP77-KgiRJ7orOx-LvjXxFBQik3SNpWd9JD6mRrcSRRFHONozIe6VJu2ykucxmOyqwUizSsdlrJ3sfBHb08o4LkPPubZs/s640/dorota-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This wedding invitation suite was terrific to design, because it was really different than anything else I had ever done up to that point. The bride and groom had specific visions, and I had the challenging and wonderful task of bringin' it to life! The end result was so fun, and I love how vintage/modern/simplistic is turned out to be. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBU5kcjUEXE_0o6nNhJ2YwqYcrirhx5quTqAPEVLZn9LYk_pPtLfhY-WcOgU_4X_gTQ20pP2XowuoKwJdBs1ZMQWpWA2eFGgKwbpEfPWngyzTfTNDfoZqR4WEeUK6r8uoRf9isomStKNmt/s1600/dorota-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBU5kcjUEXE_0o6nNhJ2YwqYcrirhx5quTqAPEVLZn9LYk_pPtLfhY-WcOgU_4X_gTQ20pP2XowuoKwJdBs1ZMQWpWA2eFGgKwbpEfPWngyzTfTNDfoZqR4WEeUK6r8uoRf9isomStKNmt/s640/dorota-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Dorota & Adam wanted a detailed outline of the events of the day, and wanted to convey just how fun and not-so-traditional the day was going to be. Dorota loves books and Adam loves music, so they asked for something that portrayed those elements. The RSVP card was designed as a library card and the "info" card was designed to reflect an old school billboard chart. We stuck to the chic black & white color palette, by pairing the white cardstock with jet black envelopes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlKJEck4_eOjzLA3nZRazGIiAjBc8Ms_kctT6hqyakdg0U-iA-OScenCiiPSKKsm_EkjX4Pu8UXEHLFMa4H5Pes_I6luYxhCCuoVin0I9MSLtBzPvh3zetqUPvJCNW5B_Ds3btK2jXn_zf/s1600/dorota-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlKJEck4_eOjzLA3nZRazGIiAjBc8Ms_kctT6hqyakdg0U-iA-OScenCiiPSKKsm_EkjX4Pu8UXEHLFMa4H5Pes_I6luYxhCCuoVin0I9MSLtBzPvh3zetqUPvJCNW5B_Ds3btK2jXn_zf/s640/dorota-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I absolutely adored the old school vibe Dorota & Adam stuck to. These puppies are definitely unique, and remain one of my favorite designs!<br />
<br />
